What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning "life force energy." It is said to be the energy that connects each of us to the other; "Rei" meaning "universal" and "ki" meaning "vital life force." The vital life energy has also been known as Chi or Prana.

The healing art of Reiki is said to be the same way in which Buddha and Jesus healed. When the energy of Ki is called upon and channeled it flows through the practitioner to the recipient restoring balance and harmony on a cellular level.

Reiki was first used in Japan and Tibet for physical, emotional and spiritual healings. It has since been used throughout the world and has very profound and powerful results. It is truly wholistic in every sense, and can be used in conjunction with other therapies and treatments.

What is a Reiki practitioner?

Reiki is based upon a relationship between the healer and the Reiki energy. The Reiki practitioner is merely a vehicle through which the energy is transmitted. This practitioner must be "attuned," or initiated to draw upon the Reiki energy. There are 3 levels of attunement: Level 1, Level 2, and Master Level. Karuna is an even higher level of Reiki energy and is only learned after a practitioner becomes a Master. It is more intensive than traditional Reiki but extremely peaceful and grounding. Karuna is meant to clear and open your channels and chakras to a higher consciousness.

What is a Reiki session like?

A Reiki session does not require disrobing but comfortable clothes are suggested. With the client lying down, light touch or no touch is used. A Reiki session is most often a physical, emotional and spiritual experience. Soft relaxing music, minimal dialogue and focused positive intentions help to evoke a sacred space in which the Ki or Chi energy can flow freely.

Since everyone experiences and interprets Chi energy differently, your experience will be unique to you.
